Border crossings

In order to enter the Republic of Croatia foreign citizens must have a valid passport or other form of personal identification based on which a border pass (valid for three months) is issued upon entry.

Customs formalities: There is no limit on the amount of personal baggage foreign citizens can import into the Republic of Croatia.  Technical equipment, cameras, camping equipment, boats and boating equipment as well as radio equipment should be declared upon entry into Croatia.

Pets can be brought into Croatia by showing their vaccination records and a health certificate issued by a veterinarian.

Motorised vehicles:  Vehicles require a license, green insurance card and letter of authorisation from the owner of the vehicle in the case that the person driving is not the owner.

Boats and yachts:  If intended for personal use, no special customs declarations are necessary when crossing into Croatia, other than providing proof of the vessel’s ownership.

Tax free

Prices in shops include tax.  Foreign nationals can request a value added tax refund for goods purchased in Croatia if these goods are to be exported out of the country.  Each individual receipt must be greater than 500 HRK (this does not include petroleum derivatives).  The merchant must issue a receipt for all goods that have been paid for.
